About Us

What is SSYO?

In 1997 an outreach to kids was started known as “Tuesday Club." This humble beginning was carried for ten years by the SouthSide Community Church to care for the youth in Southtown. By the Summer of 2005, after the launching of a Summer School and other summer youth activities, it was clear that this outreach was creating positive impacts in the community and so the SouthSide Youth Outreach was born as a fully-fledged organization by mid-2007.

In 2017 our mission statement was restated and refocused to plot a precise course for the future. Our mission is "to build strong, young lives so that our community will thrive." Our mission is simple but far from easy. Our mission is the heartbeat of our organization and guides us to provide programs that will equip our youth to be thriving adults in our community.
We believe every child deserves opportunities to succeed and thrive so we create safe, family-like environments where high character and academic excellence are encouraged through meaningful personal relationships. We facilitate this through after school and summer school programs where high caliber and loving volunteers can invest in the lives of youth. We believe people, not programs, change lives so our model focuses on environment and volunteer training to bring about lasting impact.
After more than a decade of providing enriching programming for children in Corvallis we're still going strong! Some things have changed with time, renaming or refocusing outreach efforts, but the mission has never changed. More than ever we are dedicated to building strong, young lives so that our community will thrive!

The future of SSYO is ridiculously bright and you can be a part of it. Every volunteer, dollar, prayer, and donation makes a difference. You can become a part of this transformational team to build strong, young lives today and a bright future for these kids tomorrow.

In November 2025, our own Program Manager, Ashley Renz received the Outstanding Rising Changemaker award at the Benton Community Foundation: Annual Philanthropic Achievement Awards!

We celebrated with our staff, board, and over 500 other community members and the seven other award recipients!

We are so proud of Ashley and the incredible impact that she makes at SouthSide Youth Outreach and the greater community of Corvallis and Benton County!
