All of our staff and volunteers go through a careful and thorough intake process including a nationwide background check, sexual abuse prevention training, trauma-informed behavior training, and a screening interview to ensure that each volunteer is equipped and ready to serve at SouthSide Youth Outreach. Job Overview
The Substitute position is an integral part of SSYO giving direct supervision and care to students. The key role of the Substitute is to provide assistance to the Sprouts EDC Lead Teachers and build positive relationships with students. The amount of investment and care that the Program Staff give to each student directly impacts the success of our programs. The Substitute will be overseeing children dependent on shift and classroom assignment, ages ranging from infant to 5 years old.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Works directly under the supervision of the Sprouts EDC Lead Teachers.
2. Connects with students regularly by talking and engaging in activities with them.
3. Supervise students throughout the duration of programs to ensure safety and to implement the SSYO behavior program to manage student behavior.
4. Exercise independent judgment while working with students, in a manner consistent with SSYO policies and procedures.
5. Hold high standards and expectations for students in such a way that personal growth is encouraged.
6. Works with individuals and groups of students to improve skills in decision making and interpersonal relations.

Additional Duties
- Performs minor first aid as needed in a manner that follows the SSYO guidelines.
- Clean and organize the areas of the building used by the RISE programs every week.
- As with all staff members of SSYO, be willing to be flexible and fulfill substitute or support roles beyond this position description, as requested by the Executive Director.
- The Substitute position is a part-time, year round, hourly position, consisting of fluctuating work schedule based on absences with at least 10 hours weekly.
- Morning Shift (7:15am-1:00pm) OR Afternoon Shift (12:15pm - 6pm) available.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Demonstrates high character in line with the Core Values.
- Know and act in a way that furthers the 4 Pillars of SSYO in programming.
- A passion for fulfilling the mission of SSYO: to build strong young lives so that our community will thrive.
- Exhibits a genuine passion for working with children.
- Has a basic knowledge of child development.
- Completion of OCC approved health and safety training.
- Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain certification within 2 months of hire
